22 Visually Compelling and Thought-Provoking Book Cover Designs

Book cover designs are an entirely different breed of design genre. The final product, which is usually materialized in print, lean highly on form and visuals whose sole function is to draw a potential reader in, move him to open the book, and read on. For book cover designers, the old adage ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ is taken literally and is given a complete 180º turn. For them, that’s exactly what they want you to do, to hold the book in your hands, examine its cover and literally judge it. Armed with an illustration along with a typographically laid out book title, book cover designs have a way of giving you a glimpse of what the book is about, a quick little story of its own which compells its viewer to linger a bit, examine the cover some more, and then eventually to move past it and head directly into the what the book holds for him.

In this article, we will be looking at visually compelling – and equally thought-provoking – book cover designs that make you wonder, just what does this book have for me?
